Halloweekend

The craziness that is Halloween has finally come to a close. It was really fun this year now that Karlee is starting to get it more and more.

We started out with our playgroup this week where they made orange playdough, learned about the color orange, and read Halloween stories.

On Thursday night we had a RS activity so it was a no time for cooking night so we did the Papa Murphy's Jack-o-lantern pizza. Let's just say it looked a lot better on the advertisement and they really skimped out on these. It was really thin crust and extremely greasy. Oh well. Live and learn.
On Friday, a lady from our ward invited me to go with her to her husband's work for their children's parade. He works at the JCPenney Headquarters. That place is huge and like a mall. Karlee was so excited to put on her bumblebee costume. Doesn't she make the most adorable bumblebee ever? I think so :)

I will admit, it was at this parade that I got the idea for our costumes. I set to work on them during Karlee's nap and had them ready by that night in time for our ward trunk-or-treat. It was a pretty quick event due to the fact that quite a few of our members decided to splurge and bought tickets to the BYU vs. TCU game that was being played in the Dallas Cowboys stadium. It's one thing I've learned around here, there are A LOT of BYU fans. You would think we were back in Utah. Anyways, 20 minutes and we were done. Karlee totally got a hang of saying trick-or-treat and thank you to everyone. What she did manage to do was get second from almost everyone. Who could resist a cute little bumblebee? Not many.
What was our costume you ask? Why we were beekeepers for our little bee. We wore painters coveralls with white spray painted straw hats and mesh netting around our heads sprinkled with little bee stickers. So simple!

The next morning, the kids (Penn & Karlee) decided they wanted to make a fort in the front room. I think this came about after Karlee jumped into bed with us and we were putting the covers over us saying it was a tent. That got my engineer of a husband's mind cogs cranking. Here is what they came up with. It is rather homey inside. Karlee likes to drag me in there to read books with her. She also loves to play the "boo" game where I sneak around outside and peek in and try to scare her. Obviously it doesn't scare her, just makes her giggle uncontrollably.

Saturday afternoon brought about painting the pumpkins we had bought. We decided to let Karlee go picasso on hers. You can tell that I'm a little paranoid about stained clothing so stripped down to a diaper she was.

Here are our finished pumpkins. Penn's are always cut so perfectly. Oh well. My cat is cute.

On Monday we went to my brother's neighborhood Halloween party and costume contest. I was there for the free food. We came home with 2nd place for best costumes and Karlee won 3rd place for kids under 5. Like I said, not many can resist the cute little bumblebee.

Here's the beekeepers with their little bee.
After the party, I went home to pass out candy to our neighborhood kids and Penn went with my brother to take the kids out trick-or-treating for a little bit. They made it up and down their street and that was just enough. Karlee was most excited about getting to go around in the wagon.

Trick-or-treat!
Karlee even managed some smooches from the devil doggy. I guess she also walked right in to someone's house to give their little doggy some kisses too. Not really shy is she?

Here's is some of the video Penn took of the kids at a couple of the houses.

Alas, the festivities are over. On to Thanksgiving and then Christmas time. Love this time of year!

She looks adorable, but your costumes are killing me! How fantastic are they? Your husband is so good to dress up.

And yay for living by BYU fans! I heart BYU. :)
