Turkey Day Festivities

For Thanksgiving this year we stayed here in Texas and enjoyed our Turkey feast with my brother and his family. We spent most of the morning playing outside because it was absolutely gorgeous outside. It has since turned into fall here and we actually had the heater kick on this week. Anyways, back to the feast. I've always had to just bring my green bean casserole and deviled eggs to Thanksgiving dinners in the past, but with just the two families I had to try my hand at a couple other side dishes. Brett & Kendra roasted the turkey, did delicious rolls, made the gravy and brought the cranberry drink. I made my green bean casserole, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, and made a pumpkin swirl cheesecake with a gingersnap crust. I'm proud to report that none of it burned and was actually all pretty darn good. We told the kids that the sweet potatoes were candied and they interpreted them as being candy and both of them gobbled them right up. Too funny!

The kids were ready for dinner before anyone else!
Brett carving the turkey (and nearly took his finger off in the process).

After dinner, the kids entertained themselves in Karlee's toy closet, Emery slept, the boys played Wii and the girls worked on some Christmas crafts.

I will admit, I felt a bit homesick but I'm so grateful that we have my brother close by. It will be just us for Christmas as well.

I had plans of going to a couple of places for Black Friday, but found that I could get the item I wanted for the same price on Amazon.com so being the person I am that does not like battling huge crowds just to save a few bucks opted to have someone deliver the items to my doorstep. I did go out on Friday morning with Kendra to Joann's to buy some fabric (ok a lot of fabric because I have a lot of projects I want to work on thanks to Pinterest). So my Christmas shopping is basically done and we can enjoy the next couple of weeks enjoying the Christmas spirit and doing fun things as a family.

We also decorated our house this last weekend. I'm am so excited to say that we finally have a fireplace to hang our stockings over! Karlee is so excited about the Christmas tree! It's exciting that she actually gets what is going on this year.

We went to Seattle to have Thanksgiving with Deven's sister. I know they would've been homesick without us there- its hard to be away!

That evil Joann's...they take all my money on black Friday. Good luck with all your project.

Your dinner sounds divine. I'll remember to invite you to my Thanksgiving sometime just to taste some of the yummy things you made. Mmmm!
